January 29th 3:00 PM SC County Take-it-Back Partnership Kick-off Event
We would like to invite you to help launchf Santa Cruz County's Take-it-Back Partnership on Thursday, January 29th at 3:00pm at Greenspace. California Integrated Waste Management Board Member and Assembly Member John Laird, Santa Cruz Mayor Cynthia Matthews and Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors Chair Neal Coonerty will join us at this media event to increase awareness of this innovative partnership
The Take-it-Back partnership in Santa Cruz will help County residents with the proper recycling of fluorescent lamps, including compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). Fluorescent lamps contain a minute amount of mercury which can harm the environment if the bulbs are not recycled properly. Under the program, PG&E will provide funding for a fluorescent lamp recycling program and work with the County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program to promote CFL collection opportunities and establish free and convenient collection systems for used residential CFLs.
As part of the DTSC's Take-It-Back Partnership, the fluorescent lamp recycling program will help Santa Cruz County achieve its recycling goals and avoid improper disposal of residential fluorescent lamps. Beginning in January 2009, Santa Cruz County and PG&E will work alongside thirteen local retailers, including greenspace, to establish proper CFL collection methods and procedures, so they can serve as recycling drop-off points.
Please contact Wendy Sarsfield at (831) 784-3584 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about this event or the pilot program.
